What is your "why"? What drives you to do this important work each day?

I have a passion for working with young people and I love the idea of helping students achieve their academic goals. I have a deep desire to be a part in breaking down systemic barriers and advocate for cultural inclusion. Additionally, when I was a young black student, I would have truly benefited from having an African Nova Scotian Student Support worker.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The best part of my job is making a positive impact on the school life of my students. Providing support, fostering a sense of belonging; and helping them to succeed both academically and personally.

What would you most like families to know about the role of Student Support Workers in HRCE schools?

I would want families to know that my role is to support their children's academic, emotional, and personal growth. I would want them to know that I am here for their child's needs and that my job is to ensure that they feel both valued, understood, and heard in the school system. Honestly, I want parents to know that their child is not alone and that someone has their back as they navigate their school life.
